Matthias Kostner was born in 1982 and raised in Val gardena, in the heart of the Dolomites.
His researches are focused on the essential of the human being, which is the point of interest of his art. His wood sculptures are prompted by the daily life, elevating the single moment of the existence to something sublime. Seated, layed down, fluctuating or in movement: the artist takes the uniqueness of moments of life and the person's essence turning them into wood.
Passionated of sculpture since he was a child, he got involved in the field since he started creating his first figures in his craftsman father's laboratory, where he cultivated his passion for the creation, the handicraft works and a strong connection with nature, which is really rich in his land of origin.
The expressive strength and the formal-spiritual magic of his works detach them from the impassive flow of life. Within them we can find something eternal: a dignity and fierceness which gives new trust.
